Cape Cod Striped Bass guide
Plan your striped bass charter
Striped bass fishing is a Cape Cod tradition and one of the best ways to introduce family members, children and first-time anglers to saltwater fishing. Migrating bass arrive during the spring and remain available through the warmer months as they follow squid, sand eels, mackerel and other bait around Nantucket Sound, Monomoy, shoals and tidal rips. The variety of locations and techniques makes striped bass a flexible target for many types of charter groups.
A typical trip may include casting soft plastics or plugs to visible fish, vertical jigging over structure, drifting live bait or trolling when bass are spread over a larger area. Tide and wind often determine which approach produces the best presentation. Fish Happens chooses the plan after reviewing recent catches and on-water conditions, then provides clear instruction so guests can participate instead of simply watching the crew fish.
Striped bass are known for hard strikes and strong runs, but the tackle can remain light enough for an active, hands-on experience. We help anglers with casting, lure control, hook setting and safe fish handling. Current Massachusetts and federal regulations determine which fish may be kept. When release is required, the crew works to minimize handling time and return the fish in good condition.
These charters can be a good choice for vacationing families in Dennis, Yarmouth, Hyannis, Harwich, Chatham and other Mid-Cape communities. Trip length, departure time and fishing area depend on the season and the age or experience of the group. Bring sunglasses, sunscreen, a light jacket, food and drinks. Soft-soled or non-marking footwear is recommended aboard the boat.
If you are deciding between an inshore striped bass trip and a longer offshore charter, call Fish Happens before choosing. We can explain what has been biting, how far the boat is likely to travel and which option offers the best experience for your group. Our goal is a safe, enjoyable Cape Cod fishing day with patient instruction and the best realistic opportunity the conditions provide.
